National Childhood Obesity Week
National Childhood Obesity Week is coming from 2-8 July 2012! We want to raise awareness of the dangers of being above a healthy weight during childhood.
What happened in 2011
During last year’s National Childhood Obesity Week, we joined forces with the Department of Health's Change4Life campaign to release research which revealed that children are falling short of the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity a day and instead spend more time watching TV and playing computer games.
We got lots of media coverage throughout the Week. MEND's chief research officer and co-founder Paul Sacher was interviewed on BBC News, BBC Radio 5 live and Sky News. MEND also featured in both the Guardian and the Mirror newspapers. Paul Sacher also hosted a radio morning with Change4Life advocate Sinitta where he was interviewed by lots of local radio stations about the research.
We want this year’s National Childhood Obesity Week to be even bigger and even more successful!
What will we be doing in 2012?
We’ll be doing lots of awareness-raising activities, as well as running MEND Move It Week to encourage more children and their families to get active together.
If you’d like to get involved or have any ideas of your own that you'd like to share with us, please contact our media team.
