MEND Services
MEND collaborates with a wide range of organisations to improve child health and wellbeing. We support local partners to deliver childhood obesity treatment and prevention services in their communities. From May 2008 there are three different services which MEND can offer local partners to improve child health
- One Day Childhood Obesity Awareness Raising Seminar: For professionals and volunteers who work with children.
- The MEND Programme: Childhood Obesity Treatment and Prevention services for children aged 7-13 and their parents / carers.
- The Mini-MEND Programme: Healthy Lifestyle Support for toddlers aged 2-4 and their parents / carers
Partnering to Deliver Results
MEND addresses health inequalities, is aligned to NICE guidelines, and delivers the policy objectives of Every Child Matters. Service delivery combines centralised support, resources and monitoring & evaluation with local staff training. MEND effectively engages “at risk” families, in a community setting, using clinically effective programmes, which are standardised, replicable, and underpinned by strong quality assurance processes. MEND can be quickly and successfully integrated into care pathways, for example many PCTs have implemented MEND as part of their referral system following height and weight measurements in reception year and year six. For local organisations MEND is an ideal vehicle to deliver:
- Public Service Agreement Targets: PSA 12, 18, 21 and 22
- Outcomes of the Every Child Matters: Change for Children initiative
- The 2008 Cross-Government Strategy for England "Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives”
